Kinematics
This is a study of moving objects.
There can be different types of motion.
E.g.- Linear
motion
Circular
motion
Oscillation
and vibrations
Linear motion
When the position of the object is changing with time,
it is called as a moving object.
When an object is moving along a straight line, it is
called as linear motion.
Following properties are import in exploring the
nature of a given motion.
1. Distance
2. Speed
3. Displacement
4. Velocity
5. Acceleration
- Distance(m) - length of the moving path is the distance.
- Speed (m s-1) - distance per unit time or rate of change of distance.
- Displacement - shortest distance between two given points (starting point and end point) or change of the position is the displacement.
- Displacement(m) is a vector.
since the direction is special to the linear motion,
displacement can be used to explain the nature of linear motion.
velocity - velocity is the displacement per unit time or rate of change of displacement is velocity. velocity = displacement /time
Following equation can be derived by using the definitions of acceleration and average velocity which are called as kinetic equations.
